Employees of the Union League are prohibited from serving alcoholic beverages to anyone who appears intoxicated. Consumption of alcoholic beverages on Union League premises by anyone under the age of twenty-one is prohibited.

Service dogs are welcome at the Union League. Service dogs are defined as any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability.  Service dogs must be registered with the Union League in advance of their entrance to the League House or companion properties.  Other animals, including emotional support animals, are prohibited.

The discreet display of business papers is permitted, but discouraged, in the member dining rooms, hallways and lounges. Private rooms are available for business meetings.

Well behaved and properly dressed children are always welcome at the Union League. Children under the age of twenty-one must be accompanied at all times by a member who is responsible for the children’s decorum and compliance with the League's policies, including the dress code. Children under the age of twenty-one are not permitted in the Old Café or The Smoking Room. Children over the age of five may dine in 1862 by Martin Hamann.

Complaints or suggestions regarding service or Union League operations may be directed only to the General Manager or the Chair of the House Committee, preferably in writing.

The forwarding or broadcasting of information via email, text or social media which is deemed to be not in the best interest of the Union League will constitute a violation. In addition, posting photos of members, their guests, or staff on any website or social media platform or posting any information regarding members, their guests, or staff on any website or social media platform -without their expressed prior permission - will constitute a violation. Communications with outside media agencies or sources about the Union League without the written permission from the General Manager is not permitted and will lead to disciplinary action by the Board of Directors. This also pertains to complaints or suggestions regarding service of League operations.

All members are expected to understand and follow the League's House Rules. Members also have a responsibility to report any violation by a member or guest to League management. While League members may politely remind fellow members of House Rules, members should not confront fellow members for infractions they observe, but instead, enlist the assistance of a manager on duty or other available League staff. If a House Rule is violated, the infraction is brought to the attention of the member or guest by League staff. The member may be referred to the House Rules Committee for review and possible sanction. Some rules may be suspended by management or the Board to accommodate special occasions or events. League management is authorized to remove any member or guest from club premises or activities for conduct which, in its judgment, is detrimental to the welfare of the League. House Rules are updated periodically, and members are responsible for being aware of all current rules.

Members may bring a bottle of wine when dining at the Union League. One bottle per two people. A corkage fee will be applied.

Cell phones, personal digital assistants, and other similar devices may only be used in the Business Center or private meeting rooms except that the brief and discrete use of cell phones and PDAs are permitted but discouraged, in the Smoking Room, Business Café (located in the back of the Old café) and the main hallways. Reading with digital readers is permitted in all areas of the League house. Laptops and other similar devices may only be used in the Business Center, the Business Cafe and private meeting rooms. The use of speakerphones is prohibited, and all cell phone, PDA, and laptop alerts must be silenced throughout the League House except in private rooms.

Member-sponsored guests and reciprocal guests are permitted to use the private dining rooms. Members sponsoring private functions are responsible for the deportment of their guests and all charges incurred by them and costs incurred as a result of damage to the League House or its contents.

It is Union League policy to provide to members, guests, employees, and vendors an environment at the League and at Union League-sponsored functions, on or off premises, free from all unlawful forms of discrimination, intimidation, or harassment, including sexual harassment. Any member whose conduct is inconsistent with such policy will be subject to disciplinary action, including possible termination of Union League membership.

The use of the Fitness Center and the adjoining locker rooms is complimentary for all members and their spouses.  Lockers are available for daily use as well as executive lockers which are billed annually to members' account. When using the locker area as a changing station please be considerate of fellow members who are using the facilities. Please do not leave belongings in the changing stalls, ask the attendant to arrange for storage of personal items, such as a garment bag.

The Union League and the Midtown Garage are non-tipping. All prices are inclusive of gratuity. Tipping is not permitted.

Member-sponsored guests and reciprocal guests may use the Inn at the League. While staying at the Inn at the League, guests may use the entire League House. All Inn guests are subject to the Rules of the House Committee and must settle their account upon departure by using a credit card or having the charges posted to a pre-authorized members account.

Members should treat League employees respectfully. Members may not discipline or reprimand employees and should report poor service or discourtesy to League management or the House Committee.  Members may not ask League employees to perform tasks unrelated to their job duties or countermand instructions given to employees by League management. When requested, members must identify themselves to staff, including providing their name and member number. Members hosting private dining events at the League may use the name and address of the League in appropriate public advertisements or listings upon advance review and approval of the advertisement by League management prior to publication. This includes, but is not limited to, public notices, advertising by radio, television, newspapers, internet and/or magazines and the public display of flyers and posters.

The logo and other trademarks of the Union League may be used only with the written permission of the General Manager. Members are prohibited from using the name of the Union League for personal or commercial promotional purposes.

Violations of the Rules of the House Committee, Improper Conduct: Improper conduct and violations of the Rules of the House Committee may be reported to the General Manager or to the Chair of the House Committee. The House Committee will investigate the reported conduct and recommend any disciplinary action to the Board of Directors.

Although the Union League does provide facilities for hats, coats, briefcases, umbrellas, and similar belongings of members and guests, the Union League is not responsible for any loss of, or damage to, any member or guest property.

An overnight stay at The Inn at the League or The Lodge at Liberty Hill is required when using any reciprocal privileges at the League. Reciprocal privileges include use of golf at Union League Liberty Hill, use of The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale and its renowned Donald Ross course, clubhouse and pool and use of The Union League Guard House for dining on the Main Line. Members hosting guests are responsible for the deportment of their guests and all charges incurred by them and costs incurred as a result of damage to the Union League or its contents. Members may not host more than eight guests in the League House at the same time, except at private dining events or with the written permission of the General Manager. Guests must sign the guest register and be accompanied by their host. Guests may be hosted at the Union League no more than six times per year for regular dining or member events, and are not permitted to use the Business Centers, Fitness Center, Locker Rooms, or sign a member's chit. The Union League reserves the right to deny access to any guest. No person whose membership has been terminated or under suspension by the Union League, or who resigned other than in good standing, may enter the League House except with the written permission of the General Manager. Cash bars are restricted to private events held in a private room. Please Note: Only one guest per member is permitted in the Smoking Room during high volume events, such as Junior Happy Hour, New Year’s Day Open House, Lincoln Day, etc. and the member must remain with their guest while in the Smoking Room.

Information in membership rosters including rosters of Union League committees, affinity clubs, and club tables are for the private and personal use of members and may be used to communicate only with members who have a personal relationship with the sender. Any other use of member information obtained from membership rosters, including solicitations, publicity, or the like, is prohibited.

Smoking is permitted only in the Smoking Room located on the first floor of Broad Street, except as may otherwise be provided for specific Union League-sponsored events. Please Note: There is no smoking or drinking on the outside portico on Broad Street.

Solicitation: Member solicitation of fellow members is strongly discouraged. Unwanted member solicitation of fellow members and guests, member solicitation of fellow members or guests who do not have a personal relationship with the member, and any guest solicitation of members or other guests are prohibited. Member or guest solicitation of autographs from members or guests (other than to sign the guest register) is prohibited. Providing access to the League House and its membership to non-members for commercial or promotional benefit is allowed only with the written permission of the General Manager.
