TORRESDALE
The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale is a challenging 18-hole Donald Ross design located just 12 miles northeast of Center City. For over 100 years, Torresdale has proved to be a tough test with every hole precisely placed over its rolling terrain. In the coming years, the golf course will be returned to its Golden Age glory with a restoration from architect Andrew Green.
FEATURED HOLES
HOLE #1
The first of many short par 4s at Torresdale greets players right out of the gate. Many players elect to take less than driver to stay short of the Byberry Creek which runs short of the green. The heavily guarded and sloping green is perched into the hill. A precise second shot is required to get the ball to settle near the hole.
HOLE #5
Hole #5 is another short par 4 that uses the rolling hills of Torresdale to defend itself. Bunkers are stacked into the hill below the green providing a challenging visual to the player. Many players will lay up into the open fairway and take on the pin with a short iron or wedge.
HOLE #15
Playing only 300 yards from the back tees, #15 sits on what may be the flattest part of property. Off the tee, longer players are forced with a decision. A green with bunkers on all sides, an overhanging tree on the right, and out-of-bounds left provide all the risk needed to choose the safe play. With the slopes on this green, an easy 3 or 4 can turn to a 6 or 7.
